European Mouflon Sheep

The herd on pasture

The European mouflon (Ovis orientalis musimon) is the westernmost and smallest sub-species of mouflon. It was originally found only on the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia, but has since been introduced into many other regions of Europe.

Mature rams range from 110-125 lbs, and should carry a large set of curved heart shaped horns. In late fall, the rams will develop a black neck "ruff"of long hair along the bottom of their throats, and a large white "saddle" patch on each side of their back. Mature ewes should be around 55- 70lbs, and are almost always hornless. Generally European mouflon do not twin.

Lambs are born with short tails. Being a hair breed of sheep, they do not require shearing of any sort. They will shed out their winter coat in late spring and sport a sleek, shiny summer coat until late in the fall when the weather changes.

Our Rams

We currently have 3 breeder Rams; 2018 born Ares,

2014 born Harley and 2012 born Loki.

Harley is a bit on the tame side, as I had to bottle-raise him due to coyotes killing his Dam.

Our Ewes

We currently only have a small group of ewes, hoping to increase in up coming years, depending on what the girls decide to bear for us!
